The 8th International Summer School for Neuropathology and Epilepsy Surgery

8th International Summer School for Neuropathology and Epilepsy Surgery (INES 2018) University Hospital, Erlangen, Germany 26 – 29 July 2018 The 8th International Summer School for Neuropathology and Epilepsy Surgery will be designed to enable participants to better recognize and classify various histopathological substrates of pharmaco-resistant epilepsy. The workshop has been held in Germany, Brazil, USA and China since 2013, with continuous endorsement of the International League Against Epilepsy. Topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of human focal epilepsies will be presented by internationally renowned faculty. Advanced hands-on histopathology training will be offered in small groups led by distinguished tutors who will review and discuss microscopy slides of selected cases with different staining protocols. Participants will also have the opportunity to present their own cases for discussion with the entire group. Learning Objectives Discuss diagnostic evaluation of surgical specimens, with particular emphasis on mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis, epilepsy-associated tumors, malformations of cortical development, focal cortical dysplasia, vascular malformations, and encephalitis. Disseminate new and upcoming clinico-pathologic classification systems among the neuro-/pathology communities and to validate existing and up-coming consensus classification systems by a larger cohort of practicing neuro-/pathologists. Recognize and classify various histopathological substrates of pharmaco-resistant epilepsy. Target Audience Neuro-/Pathologists, Epileptologists, Neurosurgeons & Neurologists, Neuroimager and Basic Researcher Course language is English. We have the pleasure to invite you to participate at the XXIVth Conference of the Romanian Society Against Epilepsy (SRIE). The conference, including a pre-conference course, will take place between 17-19 November in Bucharest in Capitol Hotel. The specialists from variate medical fields, working with epilepsy patients, are invited to participate and present their experience discussing problems related to treatment of epilepsy, which represent the main theme of the conference As part of the scientific agenda we will approach and discuss several themes with practical implications in our day to day activity: Treatment in epilepsy – will be discussed during an interactive course starting from clinical cases (17 Nov); Woman with epilepsy – in the first Conference day (18 Nov) we will discuss different aspects of the epilepsy in females: treatment in adolescent girls, catamenial epilepsy, pregnancy in women with epilepsy, impact of antiepileptic drugs on the babies exposed during pregnancy to antiepileptic drugs (malformations, cognitive impact), birth and postnatal period in women with epilepsy; Epilepsy surgery (19.Nov) – We will discuss hemispheric syndromes and insular pathology, starting from clinical examples; Social aspects in epilepsy – issues related to labour legislation, driving licence, experience of families of patients with epilepsy in the context of Romanian health care will be discussed; European Reference Network for Epilepsy – Epi CARE will be presented to the Romanian physicians, as an inclusive network dealing will matters of health and social problems.
